IF you want to be part of the action when the huge musical extravaganza that is the Big Day Out returns next year, then make sure you get in early.
Big Day Out tickets go on sale this Friday and if the huge response to festivals such as Splendour in the Grass, The Falls and Homebake is anything to go by, Big Day Out is expected to sell out in record time.
An outstanding line-up has been announced for next year's event which will take in six shows across Australia and New Zealand landing at Sydney Showgrounds on Thursday, January 26.
Returning to the Big Day Out in 2006 will be The White Stripes. The garage blues duo, which comprises Jack and Meg White, last toured with the festival in 2002. Their profile has since shot through the roof with the release of two critically acclaimed albums, Elephant and Get Behind Me Satan. Also making an encore Big Day Out appearance is Iggy Pop who played the second Big Day Out back in 1993.
This time he returns as Iggy and the Stooges. After 30 years apart, The Stooges reformed to contribute to frontman Iggy Pop's album Skull Ring; after playing a string of rapturously received shows, their reunion is solid.
Other international acts confirmed include Franz Ferdinand, Kings of Leon, The Mars Volta, AFI, Sleater Kinney, The Magic Numbers, Soulwax and DJ duo 2 Many DJs. Representing Australia and New Zealand will be The Living End, Gerling, Dei Hamo, Magic Dirt, Cut Copy, End of Fashion, Faker, The Grates, Youth Group and Wolf and Cub.
