THE Whitlams will begin their first national tour in two years tomorrow night with a performance at one of their favourite haunts, the Bar On the Hill. Novocastrians will not only be the first to see the band live in action but also the first to hear tracks from the band's forthcoming album, Little Cloud and the Black Ice of Manhattan. In early 2004 frontman Tim Freedman moved to New York where he said he ``wrote songs and wandered the streets''.
Upon his return, Freedman gathered the regular Whitlams line- up of the last six years and, along with Machine Translations' J. Walker in the producer's chair, started recording.
The band was inspired by the producer's organic approach and were surprised to find that by the end of the sessions they had enough quality material to release a double album. The album is set to be released in February next year.
Supporting The Whitlams tomorrow night will be Bertie Blackman and Amy Vee and the Virtues. Tickets are available online at bigtix.com.au or at the door on the night.
