NEWCASTLE heavy rockers EQUINIBRIUM will host two unofficial launches this weekend to celebrate the release of their second EP.

The EP is titled Benchmark and follows Equinibrium's debut self- titled EP.

Recorded and produced by former SCREAMING JETS guitarist GRANT WALMSLEY, Benchmark is a solid chunk of melodic progressive hard rock, topped with melancholy groove.

Mastered by Australian sonic guru DON BARTLEY at STUDIOS 301 in Sydney, the EP displays a mature progression in its approach to songwriting and performance, the band says.

Since relocating from Goulburn to Newcastle in 2000, Equinibrium has established itself as one of the city's premier heavy rock outfits with the potential to tackle the national music scene.

The band has supported the likes of 28 DAYS, SUPERHEIST, JERK, MARK OF CAIN, SUNK LOTO and ANOTHER RACE. Equinibrium joined the heavyweights on the VANS WARPED tour in 1999 when it shared the bill with international acts such as DEFTONES and PENNYWISE. KERRANG! magazine cited Equinibrium as ``a band to watch''.

Music guru IAN ``MOLLY'' MELDRUM gave it his stamp of approval after citing Equinibrium as Band of the Month.

Catch Equinibrium alongside the BUTTERFLY EFFECT at the BAR ON THE HILL tomorrow night and at the PALAIS ROYALE YOUTH VENUE on Friday night.

Benchmark is out now through MGM distribution.
