When: Wednesday June 5, 2002

If you loved the film Brassed Off! then you won't want to miss a very special event coming to ClubNova Newcastle next month.

Regarded as the world's most famous brass band, the Grimethorpe Colliery Band will return to Australia for a series of shows around the country.

Since its inception in 1917, the band has grown to achieve legendary status all over the world.

As well as winning nearly every brass band competition in the UK, the band was also the masterminds behind the music for the hit film Brassed Off!.

The film's soundtrack has become a best-seller and put the band in higher demand than ever before.

Originally started as a leisure activity by a group of workmen from the colliery, the band has become renowned for taking brass music to new levels.

The band proved its diversity in 1977 when it began a long association with pianist and vocalist Peter Skellern. The union led to many television appearances, award-winning recordings and concert platforms, earning the band a wide following.

In its time together, the band has toured throughout the US, Australia and most European countries. Since 1962, the band has competed in 210 contests throughout the world.

Catch the legendary band when it performs at ClubNova Newcastle on June 5.

Tickets are available from the club on 4926-2700.
