THEY say the best way to improve as a musician is to perform in front of a crowd but there have been limited resources available for young musicians in Newcastle.
The Palais Royale will do its bit to make sure the rising stars of the Hunter will have the chance to have their talents heard.
On Friday night the Palais will introduce Emergency, a place where bands can perform in front of other musicians and local music fans.
Emergency will be held from 7pm to 10pm and taking the plunge this week is Starpark, Ardery, Schlauncher and Save and Exit. Organiser Dale Garbutt said the weekly showcase is open to all musicians who are unsigned, based in Newcastle and under 25.
'The most common request we get from young bands is for a chance to perform to a crowd and get some exposure,' Garbutt said.
'Live music fans want an affordable, weekly event where they can get together and hear some live music.
'We hope that Emergency will do both.'
Acts are selected by the Palais' Indent Committee, an independent group of young people who meet each Wednesday at the Palais at 4pm.
If you are interested in joining the committee or performing at the event, contact Dale Garbutt at the Palais on 4974-2092.
Entry to Emergency is $5 at the door.
