LAST year was the biggest of Daniel Arvidson's career.
The Novocastrian singer songwriter was continually swamped with requests to perform his Steel City tribute song, Newcastle. As well as a being the unofficial theme tune to the Newcastle Knight's victorious win in last year's NRL Grand Final, the song was one of Newcastle's fastest selling singles.
It was Arvidson's second recording, following the re-release of his first recording in 2000, an album simply titled Arvidson. 'The album is not exactly radio friendly ... it is a very emotional and creative album and reflects some experiences I was going through at the time when I released it in 1998,' he said.
Following the success of the single Newcastle, which does not feature on the album, Arvidson said he already has plans for a second album.
He hopes to release it within the next year.
'This album will have a lot more pop tunes on it, and will be much more radio friendly.'
A captivating performer, Arvidson performs many covers of rock favourites but can also successfully perform anything from lounge music to easy listening.
A regular performer around Newcastle, Arvidson will perform at the Commonwealth Hotel on May 10, Wests Leagues Club on May 11, Aberdare Tavern on May 12 and MJ Finnegans on May 13.
