Cruel Sea Rolls in to Catch Second Wave

Who: The Cruel Sea, Pre-Shrunk, Hang Seng
Where: Newcastle Panthers
Author: Jade Lazerevic
When: Saturday March 16, 2002

FOLLOWING their sell-out show at The Cambridge Hotel last year, it was only fitting that The Cruel Sea return to perform at a larger venue.

The five-piece will perform at ClubNova Newcastle on Saturday night with Pre-Shrunk and Hang Seng. Following the success of its latest album Where There's Smoke, The Cruel Sea will wrap up its latest tour in Newcastle

The reggae-inspired album has been described as the band's best and is a blend of soul, funk, blues and reggae with Tex Perkins' unmistakable vocals.

The album's first single Simple Goodbye was described by Perkins as 'sophisticated disco'.

The catchy track No Choice was written by Perkins and features a sample of Dirty Three's Warren Ellis playing the flute.

Each member of the band agrees that recording the album was an enjoyable experience.

Tickets for Saturday night's show are on sale now from The Rock Shop, Beaumont St Beat, Rumours Clothing and the club.

TE has one double pass to give away.

Check out page 22 for entry details.
