THE Shortland Hotel has long had a reputation as Newcastle's number-one venue for blues music.
The hotel will uphold its reputation when it hosts one of the Hunter's biggest blues festivals.
The Rhythm 'N Blues Revue will make its debut this weekend and organisers hope the show will be the first of many in a series of concerts.
Held this Sunday from 2pm to 9pm, the show will feature an impressive line-up of blues artists from Sydney and the Hunter Region.
Three well known Sydney bands will make the trip north - Ray Hoff and His Juke Joint Jump Band, The Porch Monkeys and Dino and The Houserockers. Hoff is one of the legends of Australian music as lead guitarist for the Johnny O'Keeffe show band in his heyday.
He recently emerged from retirement with a new band and will stage a debut performance in Newcastle.
The Porch Monkeys features the skills of former Buffalo's member Dave Tice, Rose Tattoo drummer Paul de Marco and former AC/DC guitarist Mark Evans. The three bands will be joined by a fresh line-up of top local talent including The Torpedo's, The Goat Band and blues DJ Jimmy D. Music fans can expect an afternoon filled with rhythm and roll, rockabilly, jump blues, blue grass, rhythm and roots and, of course, blues.
Entry is $10 at the door and families are welcome.
