TOURING is often seen as a gruelling process for many musicians.
But for iconic Australian singer songwriter Paul Kelly, touring is high on the agenda and he has become renowned for spending lengthy periods on the road.
Fresh from a successful tour of the UK, Kelly is straight back into life on the road.
Kelly's Australian tour will kick off in Newcastle when he performs at Wests Leagues Club on July 9.
The tour follows the release of Kelly's latest single Just About To Break which is taken from his 2001 album Nothing But A Dream. The single has already received extensive radio airplay on Triple J and has become a hit for its dark sound and haunting vocal styles.
The album has been one of Kelly's biggest successes, debuting at number seven on the charts and offering the hit singles Love Is The Law and Somewhere In The City. The Australian tour will see Kelly perform 12 dates around the country covering NSW, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
As well as travelling to the UK this year, Kelly enjoyed a successful tour of the US.
While in Europe, Kelly performed the festival rounds and took to the main stage at London's Fleadh Festival where he shared the stage with The Pogues and Joe Strummer. Check out the re-release of Kelly's album Nothing But A Dream featuring a bonus disc titled The Gift That Keeps On Giving. The disc contains tracks written from the perspectives of women and is in the same vein of the new album Women and The Well which features Australian female musicians performing Kelly's hits.
Tickets to Kelly's show at Wests are on sale now from the club on 4935-1200.
