WHAT do you get when you put together platform boots, sequinned pants, hard hats, the moonwalk and five rowdy popstars?
You end up with a comical showband known as The Zips. Regarded as Australia's best showband, The Zips have been sending up the biggest names in the music world.
Whether it be The Spice Girls or Elvis Presley, no musician is safe from The Zips.
The basis of The Zips first came to surface in the late 70s with the introduction of Australian's famous comedy act Wickety Wack .
Wickety Wack unleashed their brand of humour onto Australians and went on to become one of the most successful touring acts in the country.
Wickety Wack successfully sent up many major music stars and were created by Tony Hogan, who later went on to create a similar show under the name The Zips.
The Zips will bring their hilarious stage show to Wests Leagues Club on Friday night as a part of Wests' members-only concerts.
Also coming in for attention will be Stevie Wonder, Tom Jones, Queen, Cher, Ricky Martin, Jimmy Barnes, Prince or Louis Armstrong. Even Irish dance extraordinaire Michael Flatley is given the special treatment by The Zips when he is portrayed as Michael 'Fatey'. Other stars given the special treatment are Neil Diamond, Freddie Mercury, The Blues Brothers, The Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, Michael Jackson and Tina Turner. A collection of elaborate costumes make up a major part of the show with outfits ranging from The Village People's get-up to Elvis' flared rhinestone suits.
The diverse range of artists are presented in the show regularly sees The Zips perform to audiences anywhere between the ages of 18 and 50.
And it is not just the fans who have showed their admiration for the group.
Their talent has seen them awarded with a Mo Award for Best Production Show and The Australian Club Association Award for Best Showgroup of the Year.
