LIVING in the Blue Mountains has had a big influence on the songwriting of Big Heavy Stuff's Greg Atkinson. Their latest album The Size of the Ocean contains the huge radio hit Hibernate which was inspired by Greg's life in the mountains.

'That is a song which I possibly couldn't have written if I was living in the city,' Greg said.

'You need to hibernate up here.'

Emerging out of hibernation, Big Heavy Stuff has taken its new album on the road and will perform at SJ's Hotel on Sunday.

The group recently shot the video for the new single Laughing Boy and was lucky to escape the experience intact.

'We shot the bulk of the clip in Botany Bay and there were big waves and it was cold, overcast and windy,' Greg explained.

The group moved on to calmer waters, where they still had a great deal of difficulty trying to perform.

'We had grave fears of sharks coming in and it turned out it was the only beach without a shark net.'
