AFTER a few minor setbacks among the band, Novocastrian rock group Luke will launch its debut album Godspeed at SJ's Hotel tonight.
The group quickly recovered after bass player David Rutter was hospitalised and had his car stolen the week before they were due to head to Adelaide to record.
Drummer Joel Duncombe, vocalist and guitarist Corey Sleap and Rutter agreed their new album was the CD they were destined to make.
With a well-earned reputation for being an energetic and powerful live band, they have successfully translated their raw energy onto disc.
Godspeed is filled with an energetic and melodic rock sound and singer Corey Sleap draws out the meaning from their well-crafted lyrics perfectly.
The group has become one of Newcastle's hottest acts since it stepped on the scene in 1999.
Luke has performed alongside acts like The Screaming Jets, Ed Kuepper, Nitocris, Machine Gun Fellatio, The Ataris, MXPX, One Dollar Short, Motor Ace and The Testeagles. Screaming Jets frontman Dave Gleeson was so impressed with the group that he featured them on his Triple M Home Grown national music show.
Luke fans should keep their eyes peeled for a video from the band, which could be playing on Rage and Channel V by Christmas.
Entry to tonight's launch is free.
