Chance to Hear Rory's Experiences to Music

Who: Rory Ellis
Where: Northern Star Hotel
Author: Jade Lazerevic
When: Thursday October 25, 2001

IF you missed him on Tuesday at the university you can catch him at the Northern Star Hotel tomorrow night.

Melbourne-based singer songwriter Rory Ellis is on the road to support his debut album Ride. The album is an independent effort by Ellis, yet it has already received roaring reviews and been named album of the week by several radio stations and street press.

Incorporating a mixture of folk and roots music, Ellis describes his sound as having an urban folk feel.

'It's contemporary folk music, I don't follow designated patterns or styles of songwriting,' Ellis said.

'I like to write in various open tunings ... whatever I feel like.'

Most of Ellis' songs are written from personal experiences and day to day events.

The title track was written after he knew no other way to deal with the loss of a child.

'I had to write a song about it, but it was one of those things that I thought shit, how do I put it in a way to make people look at it in a different light, rather than grieving about the situation.'
