Phial set to Spill Over With Metallic Grooves

Who: Phial, Minus .09
Where: SJ's on Beaumont
Author: Jade Lazarevic
When: Wednesday July 4, 2001

ONE of Australia's most promising metal bands will perform at SJ's Hotel Hot House on Wednesday night.

Hailing from Sydney, Phial has developed an impressive following since it introduced its brand of heavy groove rock in 1999.

The group had a track, Undone, released on the Triple J Three Hours of Power compilation Full Metal Racketin 1999.

The song scored a listing alongside songs by the likes of Fear Factory, Segression, Slipknot and Coal Chamber. The group released its second EP Overtones last year and a video clip was produced for the title track.

By September, the clip had been aired on ABC TV's Rage and pay-TV's Channel V as songs from the EP began to receive national airplay.

Phial's music has been evocatively described as 'the dark melodic heavy deal'.

The group consists of Robert Carr on vocals, Warren Keelan on guitar, Tim Dean on bass and Phil Burke on drums.

Performing with Phial at SJ's will be Minus .09.
