Git The Funk:

Who: Jacuzzi Suit
Where: Kent Hotel
When: Saturday May 20, 2000

IF it's infectious grooves you're craving then JACUZZI SUIT has what you need this Friday night at The Kent Hotel and Saturday night at The Brewery. Jacuzzi's repertoire offers a hybrid of funk, soul and groove in a cool collision of STAX RECORDS and the 1990s. Jacuzzi Suit is lead vocalist SHANE BUCHANAN, brass section ADAM FERRIER and LEIGH SHERRINGHAM, bass player LEIF TISDELL, guitarist DAN HOOPER and drummer PAUL SCHOTT. OCEAN VIEW: NEWCASTLE rockers SPLURGE will perform at the Ocean View Hotel this Friday from 8pm. The band plays a heap of songs of the TRIPLE J variety such as THE LIVING END, BEASTIE BOYS, BLINK 182, GRINSPOON, FOO FIGHTERS and NIRVANA. Splurge also has a fair whack of material that everyone will like, by groups such as THE KNACK, PEARL JAM, SANTANA, GARY MOORE and THE ROMANTICS. The group is former SMASH PALACE lead vocalist MARK CASHIN, with guitarist GERALD BRAZIER, bass player SHANE PINCHEN and drummer NATHAN CHAPMAN. CELTIC ROCK: CELTIC rock band HIGHLANDER will return this Sunday to the Great Northern Hotel, where the restored landmark is into full swing with its Irish/Celtic entertainment theme. The six-piece band uses violin (SUSSI THOMSEN) and highland bagpipes (JUSTIN BODDY), with DAVE MARSHALL (drums), JOHN GOTTERY (bass), GRANT FRASER (guitar) and JILL FRASER (vocals) completing the line-up. Highlander will perform again on Friday, May 26, at Belmont Sportsmans Club, for a Celtic music night featuring the CELTIC CRAIC DANCE GROUP. PUNK ROCK: CASH FROM CHAOS will perform its 'last show for a while' with VIRUS CRAWL at the Hunter on Hunter this Saturday night. Belting out hard core punk music, Cash For Chaos is heading into Cloud Studios, on the Central Coast, to record an EP. Virus Crawl performs some of the fastest technical heavy metal around.

SPOOK PACKS: PLAYING 'a tantalising blend of Top 40 cream, cutting-edge dance and a little left of centre', covers band SPOOK has the repertoire and now the merchandising to take over the city's venues. Spook will play this Friday night at The Delany and Saturday night at the Beach Hotel. TE has two killer SPOOK PACKS (baseball cap, stickers, poster and photo) to give away. To go in the draw mail an envelope, with your name, address and telephone number on the back, to SPOOK PACK PO Box 615, Newcastle, 2300. Or enter on-line at www.nnp.com.au
