AMERICAN trumpeter TOM BAKER and the CHICAGO SEVEN JAZZ BAND will have Novocastrians swinging and tapping all the way to the Hamilton Jazz Festival on April 2.
The group led by BAKER has been going strong since the 1980s, boasting members Paul Furniss (reeds) and Roger Janes (trombone and vocals).
The other band members include Chris Taperell (piano), Paul Finnerty (banjo/guitar) and Don Heap (double bass).
The band is a mixture of ragtime, New Orleans, Chicago dixieland and 1930s small-band swing.
They have been nominated several times for the prestigious MO award for best jazz group.
BAKER also doubles on saxophone and trombone as well as trumpet and vocals.
TOM BAKER'S CHICAGO SEVEN will appear at the Northern Star Hotel from 8pm. Admission is $6.
SUITE SOUNDS featuring JULIE WILSON will appear before the jazz band from 2pm. Admission is free.
