SWEDISH punk rockers MILLENCOLIN will rock the Wickham Croatian Sports Club on Tuesday, February 8, at an all-ages gig featuring Melbourne punks, 99 REASONS WHY, GAME OVER and Newie's CHIN CHEN. According to the gig's promoters BIG APACHE the year 2000 is set to be a great one for young Newcastle music fans, with the opening of the Palais Youth venue in March.
'I think it will cook for Newcastle music this year,' said Big Apache's MARCUS WRIGHT. Big Apache, which booked tomorrow night's TUMBLEWEED and SCREAMFEEDER over-18s show at Fanny's is planning to run all-ages entertainment at the Wickham Croatian this year, and would like to begin booking some shows into The Palais youth venue.
In other developments last week, the under-18s dance venue, CLUB DELIRIUM at Hunter St West, closed its doors, while another, CLUB MILLENNIUM opened at the former Mission Theatre in King St.
One of the operators of Club Delirium, STEPHEN MCINALLY, said the venue had 'ceased trading' on Saturday, January 8, less than six months after opening.
'It's certainly been a learning experience. I sincerely hope they (Club Millennium) launch their thing with a big bang,' he said.
'My genuine gut feeling is that there's nothing for kids in Newcastle, and something is sorely needed.'
On the same night that Club Delirium closed its doors for the last time, 830 young people attended an all-ages gig SOBRIETY III at the Newcastle Workers Club.TE
