Who: Alex Lloyd
Where: University - Bar on the Hill
When: Thursday February 24, 2000

IN a ROLLING STONE interview POWDERFINGER front man BERNARD FANNING was asked who he thought was Australia's best male vocalist.

He replied: 'ALEX LLOYD, hands down.'

Lloyd, playing tomorrow night at the University of Newcastle, has had an amazing year filled with compliments, awards and critical acclaim.

This year Lloyd's debut album BLACK THE SUN scooped the number one position in the TRIPLE J Top 10 Albums of 1999, as voted by listeners ahead of CALIFORNICATION by RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS at number two.

Lloyd, formerly with Sydney Indie band MOTHER HUBBARD, began writing the album in 1998 around various Sydney studios and wound up working with former PSYCHEDELIC FUR cum SUEDE and PULP producer ED BULLER. Lloyd completed the album after a songwriting hiatus in Europe and Los Angeles.

The result is a lush, textured album rich in lyrical ideas. TE
