HARD ROCK: WHAT started as two shows on last summer's VANS WARPED TOUR for Gold Coast band SUNK LOTO ended up as a flurry of record company offers, and thumbs up from touring bands DEFTONES and PENNYWISE. Formed in 1997, the band eventually signed to EPIC RECORDS and has released its debut EP SOCIETY ANXIETY which features the TRIPLE J hit VINEGAR STROKE. Sounding like something between PANTERA and JEFF BUCKLEY, Sunk Loto is part of the March 17, all-ages SOBRIETY 4 gig at the Newcastle Workers Club, which is selling fast.
GOOD STUFF: QUAAN formed in 1997 with the goal of 'entertaining the masses and giving people a 100% performance'. Translated their name means 'truth, love, respect and all things good in life'. This Friday night Quaan will perform at Belmont 16 Footers, playing songs by everyone from LYNARD SKYNARD, THE KINKS, HOT CHOCOLATE and CREEDENCE to SMASH MOUTH, OASIS, HOODOO GURUS and EVERCLEAR. Soloist MICHAEL MILLS will perform in the club's restaurant on Saturday night.
CLASSIC ROCK: NEWCASTLE'S 50s ROCK'N'ROLL CLUB is bringing OL'55 back to Newcastle, this Saturday night at Belmont Sporties Club. Featuring ROCKPILE on lead vocals, EJ HOLDEN, BIG KIM CONSTABLE, BRUCE ALLEN, PETE NORTHCOTT and MARK FAIRHURST, Ol' 55 will be playing all their hits, such as TAKE IT GREASY, CRUISIN' FOR A BRUISIN' and THE VAULT. DJ DAVE GREVILLE will spin classic 1950s rock'n'roll throughout the night.
KARAOKE NITE: RAY WAITE'S KARAOKE will return to Hamilton RSL Club this Friday night, where the club hopes to get audience members off their seats and onto the stage once a month. Karaoke began in January. The COPY CATS duo will perform on Saturday night as part of the club's weekly entertainment program. TE
