WHEN the presenter of the J FILES, RICHARD KINGSMILL wants to compile anything to do with THE SMASHING PUMPKINS he calls Newcastle's NATHAN FIELD. Field, playing on Wednesday, April 12, at The Cambridge in his band PLAN 9, has a collection of Smashing Pumpkins rarities that rivals even that of the youth broadcaster.
Next week's performance titled OPERATION UMBRELLA will see Field unveil part of the collection for the public in between sets featuring POWDERKEG, ODIOM'S EYE and soloist BROOKE HARVEY. Plan 9 drummer Field and his band members JOEL ROBINSON on lead vocals and bass player MATTHEW POINTON, believe fans of Smashing Pumpkins may like what they hear during their own set.
Punters should get there by 8pm if they want to hear Field's Smashing Pumpkins rarities (and some hard-to-get bootlegs we're reliably informed).
Plan 9 recently began recording its own material and judging by what TE has heard, the group has a firm handle on its own brand of lo-fi, slacker anthems.TE
