Fuelling the Hype

Who: Fuel
Where: Newcastle Panthers
Author: Anthony Scully
When: Sunday November 14, 1999

IN the US, alternative rock band FUEL has been an 'overnight' sensation, where its debut album SUNBURN has been certified gold.

But this Sunday at the Newcastle Workers Club will be largely untested waters for Fuel, which is really only known for one song SHIMMER in Australia.

Australian audiences were first introduced to the SONY MUSIC-signed Fuel through a lavish television campaign promoting the album Sunburn, which was big on hype.

With a distinct lack of airplay, audiences will most likely respond to the curiosity factor in deciding to check out Fuel this Sunday.

Australian band AUTOMATIC will support Fuel.

In selected quotes from the band's website, Fuel says ROLLING STONE described SUNBURN as 'breezy melodies with full-out metallic aggression'.

NEW YORK TIMES music critic JON PARELES 'admired how the band played with passion and precision,' noting Fuel's 'sharper riffs making way for clear melodies'.

Cinema goers may recognise a Fuel song WALK THE SKY from the platinum GODZILLA soundtrack. TE
