AFTER an eight-month tour taking in most of the United States, Europe and Canada, THE SUPERJESUS, has returned home triumphant to collect an ARIA for the BEST ROCK RELEASE of 1998.
Performing tomorrow night for the University of Newcastle's Student Union at the BAR ON THE HILL, drummer PAUL BERRYMAN agrees it is ironic that they should be feeling like 'kings of the world'.
When the SUMO album was launched in March, it was pipped at the number-one spot by the TITANIC soundtrack.
'It wasn't really like that,' he said with a chuckle. 'But we're really happy to be back here and I think this tour coming up is going to be one of the best ones that we've done so far.'
The group has a two-month tour scheduled, which takes in most of the major festivals including GLENWORTH VALLEY at Peats Ridge, HOMEBAKE and THE BIG DAY OUT. 'It should certainly surpass the (March) SUMO tour I guess, because we'll be taking around all our own production and we'll be spending lots of bucks to make sure the show looks and sounds right.'
The band has just re-released SUMO, which has become a multi-platinum chart success, thanks to hit songs such as SHUT MY EYES and jaw-dropping live shows.
For the re-release the record company has issued a bonus live disc which also contains eight video clips on CD ROM for home use on personal computers.
The clips are slick and fully mixed and pack a mighty wallop if you link your PC up to the home stereo and crank it up.
'We decided to pop them on the CD because it's a big part of who The Superjesus are nine months out of the year, and it's difficult when you are recording an album to get that raw live thing across on top,' he said.
'It's good that you've got that aspect of it repackaged in with the album.'
