SYDNEY band Weir's influences, which include early Radiohead, Mazzy Star and Doves, have shone through enough for the group to earn comparisons to all three.
``People often ask us to describe our music, which is such a difficult thing for any band to do,'' drummer Matt Alexander said.
``For Weir, we have Jess's beautiful voice being driven by music that ranges between melancholic to massive.
``This makes our style hard to define but it does mean that we appeal to a wide range of listeners, which can't be a bad thing.'' Classically trained singer Jess Beston founded Weir four years ago with Alexander.
The pair have since consolidated the line-up with the addition of Marty Jameison on bass and Malcolm Ballinger on guitar.
Last year, Weir released its debut EP The Risk before a capacity crowd at The Civic in Sydney.
It is anticipating this year to be a big one with the group set to appear at the upcoming Come Together 3 music festival at Luna Park and to play shows outside of Sydney.
Catch Weir live at the Beach Hotel, Merewether on Saturday night before a return trip to play the Cambridge Hotel on April 12.
