A Smillie Stamp For Artist With Top Single

GRANT Smillie has plenty of reason to grin.

Last week the Melbourne music-maker topped the national ARIA charts with his group TV Rock's debut single, Flaunt It. It spent five consecutive weeks at the top on the ARIA club charts before breaking into the mainstream.

Smillie formed TV Rock two years ago with fellow DJ and producer Ivan Gough. ``We don't see ourselves as rock stars, that's not why we're in this. We just want to write good stuff and hope that it's accepted by people,'' Smillie said.

Collectively the pair share years of experience, having played the club circuits in Europe and Australia.

Smillie, the main resident at Melbourne nightclub Onelove, has mixed the last three Onelove compilation albums and hosts a radio show with John Course on Nova. Gough is considered one of Australia's most accomplished dance music exports, and has remixed everyone from Icehouse to Groove Terminator. Smillie will step away from his commitments with TV Rock this weekend to play a set at King Street Hotel on Friday night with support from Fuel and Chris Tanch. He is touring to launch the release of the latest Onelove mix album Bring It On 2006 which was mixed by Smillie along with fellow Onelove resident Acid Jacks and UK outfit the Freemasons. Doors open at 10pm.
