ONE of Sydney's masters of breakbeat will be on deck when popular dance party Nutshell Breaks returns this weekend.
James Taylor is touring to support the release of the album Fuzzy Breaks Vol 2 which he compiled alongside UK breaks team Drummatic Twins. ``Basically its a representation of what you're likely to hear from me in a club set,'' Taylor said.
``It starts off on a more funky tip, progresses into electro areas and finishes off with more tech influenced breaks.
``It was a hard task trying to convey my sound in a 70-minute CD but I'm really pleased with the end result.'' He will play a cross section of breaks, funk, hip-hop and electric disco when he stops over to launch the album during Nutshell Breaks at the Cambridge Hotel on Saturday night. Taylor's foray into the dance world began in 2000 when he was booked for his first gigs at a bar in Bondi Junction. He went on to gain a residency at YU where he played a variety of hip-hop and funk, and at the popular Sounds on Sunday in the breaks room. Taylor 's profile has continued to sky-rocket around Sydney and he has earned a reputation as one of Sydney's the city's stand-out DJs supporting Ugly Duckling, Q-bert and LTJ Bukem. Also playing at Nutshell Breaks will be Hook'n'Sling, Bex Riley, Kato, Auxilary and more. Advance tickets cost $15 from PDMS, threesixtysounds, Abicus, Ramjet and the venue or $20 at the door.
