Managing Some Special Ska

Who: The Managers, Rubix Cuba, Conation
Where: Northern Star Hotel
When: Wednesday May 18, 2005

TOURING New Zealand ska outfit The Managers will play not one but three shows in Newcastle this week.

Starting today with a lunchtime show at the University of Newcastle followed by an evening gig at the Northern Star Hotel, The Managers will also get the crowd skanking along to its tunes at The Bandroom @ Newcastle Leagues Club on Friday night.

It starts an extensive tour for the group, which will travel down the coast for dates in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. Bringing the band to Australia was no small feat, with the band now comprising eight members Steve Guntrip (bass, vocals), Paul Frewin (keyboard, vocals), Tom Anderson (saxophone), Ross Hutchison (guitar), Rik Singleton (trumpet), Blaine Hoopes (baritone saxophone), Simon Frost (drums) and Sandy `Balls' Gunn. While the line-up has endured many changes over the past decade, The Managers have remained a constant on New Zealand's music scene.

Having earned a reputation as a live act at home, The Managers are touring on the back of their debut album, Special , which is a compilation of some of their best songs.

The Managers will be supported by Rubix Cuba and Conation tonight and both will join them again on Friday night along with Imperium.
