Kid Gets Straight Down To Business

Who: DJ Kid Kenobi, MC Shureshock
What: Nutshell Breaks
Where: The Cambridge Hotel
When: Saturday May 14, 2005

DESPITE a gruelling touring schedule that has taken him to many parts of the globe in the past month, Sydney-based DJ Kid Kenobi has returned home and got straight down to business.

He will headline Nutshell Breaks when the popular dance party celebrates its fourth birthday on Saturday night at the Cambridge Hotel. It is a tradition which has continued ever since Kenobi played the first event back in 2001.

Kenobi's overseas jaunt took him on a whirlwind ride through Canada, the US and South America.

In the space of a month, Kenobi played to new audiences across a dizzying range of locations from Vancouver and San Francisco to New York and Sao Paulo.

``It's quite a humbling experience sometimes, going on tour and playing different places . . . and having people react so positively,'' Kenobi said.

``It's pretty awesome.'' It's also proof that Australians are not the only ones who have caught on to the Kid's bumping breakbeat sets.

Kenobi, who has twice been named Australian DJ of the Year, will be joined by long-time sidekick MC Shureshock. Previously best known for his role as the frontman of Brisbane outfit Zephyr Timbre, MC Shureshock is now best recognised for his work alongside his DJ counterpart.

``It's really nice to have that live element that adds another dynamic to the gig,'' Kenobi said.

``We try to work together as much as possible now.

He's just a very good MC; he's versatile, he does ragga, he does raps and he talks to the crowd and does random things.'' Pre-sale tickets are $15 from threesixtysounds, PDMS, Ramjet, Abicus, Volume or are $20 at the door .
