Turntable Wiz To Headline

Who: Dexter, DJs Tone, Mathmatics, Skoob, Boogie and Kato
Where: The Cambridge Hotel
When: Sunday June 12, 2005

FORMER Avalanches turntable wiz Dexter returns to Newcastle to headline the long weekend celebrations at the Cambridge Hotel on Sunday.

Last time Dexter played Newcastle in October last year, he attracted a huge turn-out of those keen to hear his eclectic blend of hip-hop, disco, doo-wop, drum'n'bass, Latin, funk, electro, breaks and reggae.

Based in Melbourne, Dexter has been recognised as one of Australia's most innovative DJ talents on numerous occasions.

As a turntablist, Dexter has won the Australian DMC championships four times and placed second in the DMC world finals where Grandmaster Flash described him as ``the world's most creative and original DJ''.

The legendary hip-hop star isn't the only one who has recognised Dexter's talent.

His co-writing contribution to The Avalanches' big hit Frontier Psychiatrist led to the Chemical Brothers to personally invite him to remix his own psychedelic reel of their greatest hits entitled Dexter's International Scribble Mix. After remixing the Beastie Boys single Triple Trouble, Dexter has hit the studio to work on a new solo album.

Joining Dexter this weekend will be Newcastle's own Mark N who will deliver a hip-hop set fresh from his recent tour of Europe.

Also spinning tunes will be DJs Tone, Mathmatics, Skoob, Boogie and Kato, as well as an appearance from breakdance crew the Atom Breakers. Advance tickets cost $15 from PDMS, Ramjet, Abicus, threesixtysounds and the Cambridge or $20 at the door on the night.

Doors open at 7pm.
