WHEN it comes to music-making, anything goes for Sydney's Boogaloo Crew .
Its beats shift between styles of house, soul, funk and breaks with an added dash of live Latin percussion.
On Saturday night the band will spice up the dance floor at King Street Hotel. The Boogaloo Crew comprises three key members.
Turntables wizard Abel el' toro uses his vast collection of samples and loops coupled with scratching and cutting skills to bring together the core of the Boogaloo Crew's sound.
Saxophone is provided by seasoned performer Garth Russell , who is a founding member of the Martini Club and a former member of Sydney outfit Sneaky Sound System. His style is varied and eclectic, using choppy funk riffs to wind things up on the dance floor and frenzied performing on both sax and bongos.
Russell plays alongside one of Sydney's most accomplished and diverse percussionists, Claudio Cartagena. Born and bred in Brazil, Cartagena fuses his Afro-Latin influences over house music, funk and breaks.
Adding an extra element to the Boogaloo Crew's performance this weekend will be soulful London-born vocalist Paula Swaray-Baxter. Entry is free.
