DEEP: Angie will appear tomorrow night at the Commonwealth Hotel.
SHE has been performing for more than 10 years but solo singer and guitarist ANGIE was still surprised to find herself one of 10 artists selected to record on the recently released compilation ACOUSTICA OF THE NATION .
There was a time when the Newcastle artist struggled for recognition.
Pub and club venues weren't interested in soloists who didn't have a backing beat behind them, she said.
But now Angie is booked for eight weeks at a time and is a feature artist on the Spellbound Music Entertainment compilation Acoustica of the Nation .
The CD will be launched over three weeks with performances by contributing artists at the Commonwealth Hotel, Newcastle, tomorrow ntsI Jan 20 and on January 27. The first shows were staged last Thursday.
The project got under way last year with a competition held between January and June.
More than 60 unheard or unsigned acoustic artists performed over a series of nights at the Commonwealth Hotel.
The top 10 were selected by judges from KOFM, Muso's Corner, ABC Radio and Scope Studios to record an original song for the Acoustica of the Nation if compilation.
Angie's track 2 Much 4 U is a song she wrote a few years ago.
Acoustica of the Nation is her second recording, following a four- track CD, Trouble with That , she made about four years ago.
On the live scene, Angie performs original tunes and covers by artists such as Missy Higgins and Janis Joplin.
The 38-year-old described her voice as unique: ``I've got a very if low, raw, bluesy tone.'' Angie has just notched up 500 sales at gigs of her Trouble with That CD.
She said she was taking that as a sign that people liked her voice. Angie will appear tomorrow night at the Commonwealth Hotel from 7pm as part of the Acoustica of the Nation showcase. The night also includes performances by Dan Flegg and Dean Dee. Appearances by Angie, Chris Frazer, Joey Peters and Spike Ryan will follow on January 27.
