YOU don't need to travel to Byron Bay's EAST COAST BLUES AND ROOTS MUSIC FESTIVAL to see one of the world's best new blues acts.
US duo The Black Keys will return to Australia early next month and undertake their very first national Australian tour, making an inaugural appearance in Newcastle with a show at the CAMBRIDGE HOTEL on Wednesday, March 16.
It will be the pair's second jaunt to Australia in less than three months following a main stage performance at the sold- out FALLS FESTIVALS in Victoria and Tasmania.
Comprising DAN AUERBACH and PATRICK CARNEY, the two college dropouts turned their attention to music and began recording tunes that surfaced on the debut album The Big Come Up . Rolling Stone magazine applauded the album, giving it a four-star rating and creating an instant buzz for the duo in the United States. In early 2003, The Black Keys recorded the follow- up Thickfreakness, and although it was completed in less than 12 hours it attracted another round of glowing reviews.
Australian audiences have embraced the pair with sell-out shows and they will return to perform tunes from their latest album, Rubber Factory. The Black Keys began recording it in late 2003, having been evicted from their former rodent- populated digs, and set up on the second floor of a former tire factory where they became inspired to name the album Rubber Factory. Tickets are on sale at the venue.
