ORIGINAL: The Violent Femmes, at Newcastle Panthers on March 17 as part of their national tour.
THE VIOLENT FEMMES will return to Australia in March and are scheduled to perform at NEWCASTLE PANTHERS as part of a national tour.
The trio's last visit to Australia in 2003 started off as a nine-show run with the possibility of an extra three shows.
It quickly turned into a 27-show marathon of Australia and New Zealand that included six sold-out shows at Sydney's METRO, plus sold-out shows everywhere from Darwin to Geelong.
They return this time at the invitation of the BYRON BAY BLUES FESTIVAL, the New Zealand University orientation committee and all of those towns and cities they never made it to last time.
As with the previous tour, fans should expect to see the full original line- up of vocalist GORDAN GANO, acoustic bass player BRIAN RITCHIE and drummer VICTOR DE LORENZO. From its humble beginnings on the streets of Milwaukee, many things have changed but one thing that hasn't is the band's sound.
Its loose, improvisational, acoustic sound is timeless.
It has 10 albums under its belt, including a host of anthems like Blister In The Sun , Gone Daddy Gone and Kiss Off, all from the band's first album.
Over the years the Violent Femmes have taken their music to more than 400 cities in 40 countries.
The Violent Femmes will play Newcastle Panthers on March 17.
Tickets cost $40 plus booking fee and are available from the venue (phone 4926 2700), SOUNDWORLD, THE ROCK SHOP and BEAUMONT STREET BEAT.
