WHEN multi-Golden Guitar award winner ADAM HARVEY steps up to support country legend WILLIE NELSON for two dates this month, he will have his fingers crossed that he doesn't become too overwhelmed by the experience.

Last time Harvey had the chance to meet the superstar at a show, he was so overcome with excitement he choked up and could not muster more than a ``hello'' to his childhood idol.

``I spent the whole show thinking of all the great things I was going to ask him,'' Harvey said.

``I get backstage and Willie comes up and said, `How you doing?' and I just stood there and looked at him with my jaw on the ground bloody starstruck.

``He actually shook my hand and I swear I couldn't even get my bloody name out.'' Harvey will perform one of two dates with the On the Road Again singer at CIVIC THEATRE NEWCASTLE on Friday, February 25.

It is a dream come true for Harvey who said he had admired Nelson for many years and grew up with his father playing the star's records at his home as a child.

When Harvey was asked to join the tour, he said he couldn't accept the invitation quickly enough.

``It's the best gig ever. It's like playing for the Pope,'' Harvey said.

Supporting Nelson adds to what has already been a fantastic year for Harvey, who was named Best Male Vocalist at this year's annual CMAA AWARDS in Tamworth last month.

It is the third time Harvey has won the award and it takes his grand total of wins to six.

Now he is concentrating on the release of his latest album Can't Settle For Less , which was recorded after a successful songwriting mission to Nashville last year.

He worked with some of Nashville's finest country music songwriters and also managed to squeeze in a few shows along the way, appearing as a guest at CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK. Harvey said he hoped to boost his profile even more overseas and would return to Canada later this year for performances at major outdoor festivals including THE CALGARY STAMPEDE and BIG VALLEY JAMBOREE.

Bookings can be made on 4929 1977.
