THERE is no shortage of live entertainment in the Hunter this weekend.
The long weekend has spawned the creation of two new music festivals which will go head-to- head on Saturday and Sunday.
Groovin' the Moo will be staged at Gloucester Showground on Sunday.
Inspired by big events such as Homebake and Splendour in the Grass, the festival will feature a host of top Australian acts including Killing Heidi and the Screaming Jets alongside some of the region's own talent.
On the other end of spectrum is The Gumball which, inspired by more laid-back events like The Falls festival, will take place on a property at Kirkton Road, Lower Belford on Saturday.
Organiser Matt Johnston said although the two festivals were being staged close together, he believed both offered something very different.
Johnston said that, among other things, his aim was to create a festival that wasn't overpopulated, didn't have endless queues and was environmentally friendly.
``There are a lot of music festivals out there. Some are amazing and some are not,'' Johnston said.
``We've been accustomed to experiencing these extremities and have made it our priority to construct an event that gives the public the best possible experience.'' Performing at The Gumball will be Bomba, iOTA and the Lizard Men, The Australian Beef Week Show, Johnny Real and the Lovemakers, Dirty Pink Jeans, Great Dividing Range, JT Recipe, Double Suparlative and more.
Johnston said the event would also feature comedy, games and skits, as well as food stalls including barbecue, Asian cuisine, vegetarian and more.
