AS the election draws nearer, Brisbane-based outfit THE HERD is doing everything in its power to see that John Howard won't rule the country again.

The 11-piece hip-hop collective joined forces with the guys from FRENZAL RHOMB to work on a project named ROCK AGAINST HOWARD. It is similar to the ROCK AGAINST BUSH campaign established by musicians in the US and has seen the release of a two-disc album featuring tracks by Australian artists and the Rock Against Howard Tour.

Members of The Herd are standing strongly behind the cause, joining the tour across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide and donating a track called Honest J. , written especially for the album.

``We've always had a strong political element to our music so we decided to get involved,'' The Herd's BEZERKATRON said.

After a solid 18 months of touring, The Herd will step back from the live scene to concentrate on writing and recording a new album which Bezerkatron said should be released early next year.

The Herd will play a final show in Newcastle this weekend as part of THIS IS NOT ART. It will perform during MINDSTATE: A CELEBRATION OF OZ HIP-HOP at the Band Room at NEWCASTLE LEAGUES CLUB on Saturday with TZU, BLADES OF HADES and PHONETIK XPERIMENTZ. Doors will open at 8.30pm and entry will cost $22. Tickets are on sale at PDMS, RAMJET and the venue.
