A Star By Day Seven

When: Sunday October 10, 2004

SEPTEMBER is sure to be a month MISSY HIGGINS will never forget.

In the space of seven days, the 21-year-old Melbourne musician watched her career unfold.

She started the week on a high when her debut album, The Sound of White , entered the national ARIA chart at number one.

By the following day, most of the dates on her October national tour had sold out and by Wednesday, Higgins awoke to news that the FINN BROTHERS had invited her to join them as a special guest on tours of Australia, the UK and New Zealand.

Her reign continued when her album went platinum and she received five nominations at the ARIA AWARDS for Best Video, Best Single, Best Pop Release and Best Female Artist.

The achievements add to a fairytale career for Higgins who won the TRIPLE J UNEARTHED competition with the first song she had written. I'm All For Believing was penned during her last year at high school in 2001.

Higgins, who chose a backpacking holiday overseas rather than signing a record deal straight away, said she was shocked when she heard her album had entered the charts at number one.

It followed on from her hit Scar EP which also debuted at the top of the charts.

``The phone rang, my mum answered and it was my manager.

And he said, `Congratulations, you're now the number one album in Australia','' Higgins said.

``My whole family was here and I just screamed and jumped up and down and everyone started screaming and hugging each other.

``I had rehearsals the next morning so I couldn't go out and celebrate with drinks and stuff, even though I would've loved to.

``The champagne did come out, but I couldn't have a late one.'' Higgins is on a national tour which includes two sold-out shows at the NORTHERN STAR HOTEL on Sunday with support from DAN KELLY. She will also play HOMEBAKE at THE DOMAIN in Sydney on Saturday, December 4.
