THEY say when you're on a good thing, you should stick to it.
And that's exactly what KID KENOBI has done by releasing his fourth MINISTRY OF SOUND breakbeat-themed compilation album, Breaks 04. Comprising two discs, Breaks 04 features the trademark killer party tunes for which Kenobi has become renowned and an appearance from long-time collaborator MC SHURSHOCK. The release of the album adds to a successful year for Kenobi who was recently named winner of the TECHNICS INTHEMIX TOP 50 DJ POLL. Previous accolades for Kenobi include being named Australian DJ of the Year in 2001 and 2002 at the AUSTRALIAN DANCE MUSIC AWARDS. Kenobi said his latest win was very unexpected.
``I did not expect that at all, I was very surprised actually,'' Kenobi said.
``I've done a lot of touring around the country so I guess I've seen a lot of different places and a lot of crowds maybe other people haven't played to.
``And breaks seem to have got quite popular throughout Australia over the last year, so those two things would have definitely contributed.
``But I don't feel like I've hit a wall yet at all, if anything I'm eager to get to the next level.'' Breaks 04 , mixed by Kid Kenobi and featuring MC Shurshock, is out now through Ministry of Sound.
Breakbeat fans can catch Kid Kenobi at NUTSHELL BREAKS at the KING STREET HOTEL on Friday night.
