STUDENTS are discovering a whole new world of sounds at THE BREWERY's free student night event, GLOBE MIX. Since beginning in mid 2003, Globe Mix has provided a different slant on the usual fare in Newcastle.
``Globe Mix is an attempt to create an atmosphere of musical excitement an opportunity to think outside the square,'' organiser JAMI AGADE said.
The event has become a popular weekly attraction for university students, each week serving up a unique mix of dancehall, hip-hop, roots, reggae, soul, African, Latin, world music and R&B.
Five of Newcastle's finest DJs MATHMATICS, KATO, DEE KAY, DJ G and KAVINDA rotate guest slots behind the decks each week.
Globe Mix is the brainchild of PHAT CHEEBA PRO , one part of hip-hop outfit PHAT CHEEBA, which came close to winning the NATIONAL UNIVERSITY BAND COMPETITION in 2002.
The group won the Northern Regional and NSW State Champions and placed third in the national championships, but now prides itself on presenting Newcastle's only night of roots, reggae and dance hall at Globe Mix.
As well as promoting a new style of sound in Newcastle, Globe Mix offers CD giveaways each week.
``Globe Mix is a fun-filled, interactive night that attempts to offer something different to the masses to get down to it's also a chance to see upcoming local talents lay down their skills with fierce dedication.
``So if you are tired of the same old-same old, then check out Globe Mix.'' Globe Mix is held at The Brewery every Wednesday.
Entry is free.
