Who: Ben Korbel, Patsan, Mat Mandell
What: Blend
Where: King Street Hotel
When: Saturday March 13, 2004

BEN KORBEL is one guy who knows the Australian dance music industry.

better than most. By night, he's one of the country's most popular DJs, topping the OZ DJ Top 20 poll in 2001.

By day, he works in marketing for leading dance music label MINISTRY OF SOUND. Korbel will fill his role as a turntable wizard when he plays at this Saturday's instalment of the new dance night BLEND at the KING STREET HOTEL. Predominantly known to clubbers as a purveyor of house music styles, Korbel said his taste in tunes has progressed enormously over the years.

``As you get older, your style changes,'' he said.

``When I was 16, I was into happy hardcore, when I was 18, I was into trance, when I was 21, I was into progressive house, now I'm into house music,'' he said.

``I like a lot of French house, stuff that's a tiny bit techy but still really funky . th. th. I play a lot of breakbeat as well.'' Korbel will be supported by Newcastle's MATT MANDELL and DJ PATSAN. Doors open at 10pm and entry is $10.

Korbel has been a prominent part of Sydney's dance scene for several years, picking up residencies at YU and playing at events such as SOUNDS ON SUNDAY, GOOD VIBRATIONS and HOMEBAKE.

Last year, Korbel travelled to Europe where he played two major gigs in Ibiza at CAFE MAMBO and SPACE.

His set at Space followed a performance by GROOVE ARMADA and saw Korbel play to a crowd of 4000.

While Korbel said he hoped to break into the overseas market, he said he would continue to hold a firm focus on Australia.

``The plan now is to stay here but to release records overseas and build a profile that way and maybe tour once or twice a year.''
