Book Lest You Miss The Best of the Fest

Who: Stephen Amos
Where: Civic Theatre
When: Friday April 2, 2004

NOVOCASTRIAN comedy fans don't need to travel to the MELBOURNE COMEDY FESTIVAL for a laugh.

One of the festival's highlight attractions will be brought to the CIVIC THEATRE NEWCASTLE next month when three of Britain's hottest stand- up comedy performers appear in THE BEST OF EDINBURGH FEST. With a series of television appearances behind him, most recently ROVE LIVE , STEPHEN K AMOS is one of the most sought stand-up comics on the UK comedy circuit.

Amos is renowned for his chatty delivery and his ability to become the characters he talks about.

His festival experience includes two years of sell-out EDINBURGH FRINGE shows, performances at the AMSTERDAM COMEDY FESTIVAL, SYDNEY COMEDY FESTIVAL, LEICESTER COMEDY FESTIVAL and GLASTONBURY. Amos performed his own solo show at the 2003 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Critics say he is ``one of the best in the business.'' Wales-based comedian RHOD GILBERT is in Australia for the first time and is relatively new to the comedy circuit.

He started stand-up in early 2002 and began performing regularly around the UK, including a run at the Edinburgh Fringe.

His ridiculous shaggy dog stories conjure up surreal images of family life to hilarious effect and his dry delivery increases the absurdity.

lw1 Also joining the tour is award-winning UK comic GORDON SOUTHERN who has appeared around the globe and headlined many shows, including two tours with THE COMEDY NETWORK. An exceptional improviser, Southern has been resident host at many top London clubs.

As well as working in stand- up, Southern is an experienced television and radio comedy writer.

Catch The Best of Edinburgh Fest when it arrives at the Civic Theatre, Newcastle on April 2.
