THE CHOIRBOYS will celebrate 25 years of striking chords with Aussie audiences when they perform a one-off gig at PHOENIX SPORTS CLUB on March 5.

a Evolver is the sixth studio album for The Choirboys and was released only this year.

``We took THE BEATLES album Revolver and sacked the big R to end up with a Evolver a ,'' frontman MARK GABLE said.

``Not content to leave it there, every song in the collection is not quite by accident carrying the title of a Beatles classic.

``We have plans for a live album further down the line as well as another studio album next year.

``We love doing this, always have, always will!'' The album is a return to the band's early recording days, characterised by powerful pub- rock pop melodies and a lyric reflective of urban l e in Australia.

Plans are now under way for an extensive 12-month tour to take in all capital cities and most regions, co irming their reputation for energetic live performances.

The Choirboys consist of Gable, bassist IAN HULME and drummer PAUL WHEELER.

The band have not performed in Newcastle since March, 2003.

The Choirboys first came to prominence when their demo was heard by GEORGE YOUNG of THE EASYBEATS , who led them to record in the same studio that produced early AC/DC and ROSE TATTOO albums.

Their first single Never Gonna Die charted nationally in 1983, giving the band support slots alongside COLD CHISEL, DEEP PURPLE and CHEAP TRICK .

In 1987 The Choirboys hit it big with the album Big Bad Noise , which reached double platinum.

It featured the single Run To Paradise which was followed by Boys Will Be Boys, Struggle Town, Empire and Rendevous .
