US band THE COUNTING CROWS best known for the radio staple Mr thJones will embark on an Australian tour next month with seven dates across the country.

The tour will include a show at NEWCASTLE ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE on April 6.

The new tour is hard upon the band's first Australian tour in March 2003 but a decade after the band released its debut album August and Everything After. The band's dates in Sydney and Melbourne sold out within minutes, confirming the band's popularity among Australian audiences.

Regarded as an exceptional live outfit, The Counting Crows are looking forward to the upcoming tour of Australia the band said its first tour here was one of its most enjoyable.

Fans can expect to hear material taken from the band's latest album Films About Ghosts which was released in November, 2003.

The 17-track album features the band's greatest hits and documents the songwriting brilliance of frontman and singer- songwriter ADAM DURITZ.

It includes The Counting Crows' modern classics such as Mr thJones, Round Here, American Girls and the band's interpretation of JONI MITCHELL 's Big Yellow Taxi featuring US singer VANESSA CARLTON .

With Australian album sales approaching 500,000 The Counting Crows have earned a strong and long-standing following.
