No Label, Other Than Rock

Who: In The Grey, Full Scale, Brace
Where: The Cambridge Hotel
When: Friday February 27, 2004

WHEN the waves were flat and there not much else to do, five guys from the Central Coast decided to form IN THE GREY. Since launching onto the live scene with a steady string of gigs, the band has already drummed up support slots with SUM 41, PACIFIER and THE JULIANA THEORY. Frontman ADAM BYRNES said the band tries to avoid being labelled anything other than a rock band.

``We're just a rock band,'' Byrnes said.

``I mean, we are not trying to be one thing or another, we're not trying to change the world, but we do want to bring something different to the table.

``So many bands sound so similar these days it's almost monotonous.'' INCUBUS is one of the bands In The Grey has been compared with since the release of debut EP Hopelicity.

Released in 2002, the EP made such an impression that In The Grey was voted Best Unsigned Band in the 2002 KERRANG! READERS' POLL. ``That was huge to us because, I mean, that's the general public voting, and we were stoked that people were recognising what we were doing,'' Byrnes said.

In the Grey released its second EP Wake THE SILENT DAY in late 2003.

``I don't think we sound like anybody else, I mean my favourite band is RADIOHEAD and we don't sound anything like Radiohead.

``It's just about keeping things fresh. People who follow trends, they just seem to lag too much.'' In the Grey will join FULL SCALE and BRACE at the CAMBRIDGE HOTEL on Friday night.
