New York Trio Making Traks

Who: Apsci, The Herd, Hermitude
Where: The Cambridge Hotel
When: Friday February 20, 2004

NEW York outfit APSCI the first international act to be signed to independent Australian label ELEFANT TRAKS will perform with the label's founders in Newcastle this weekend.

The show is part of THE WANDERERS TOUR which takes in venues along the east coast to celebrate five years of musical independence for the Sydney-based label.

Apsci will be joined by label owners THE HERD and hip hop duo HERMITUDE at the CAMBRIDGE HOTEL on Friday night.

Although Apsci is from the US, it shares a strong connection with Australia as it features the vocal talent of former Sydney resident DANA DIAZ-TUTAAN. Diaz-Tutaan, who trained as an opera singer and lives in New York, teamed with producer-partner and MC RAPHAEL ``RA'' LAMOTTA and DJ BIG WIZ to form Apsci.

LaMotta's step into the music scene began as a member of indie punk band VITAPUP which supported the likes of ELLIOTT SMITH, BIKINI KILL, SLEATER- KINNEY and TORTOISE before disbanding.

In the late 90s he ventured into production and met Diaz-Tutaan, later teaming with Big Wiz, one of the most respected disc-spinners in New York City.

Apsci blends taut electronics with urban poetry and plenty of catchy hooks which are evident on the trio's debut album Get It Twisted. The album was released on Elefant Traks in late 2003.

Doors open at 8pm.
