ONE of the leaders of the London breakbeat scene will headline NUTSHELL BREAKS when the monthly event celebrates Valentine's Day.
KLAUS ``HEAVYWEIGHT'' HILL known for his work in breaks outfit 2SINNERS will be the latest to add to the growing number of international DJs such as FREQ NASTY and KRAFTY KUTS who have played at the event.
For the past eight years Hill has been working his way to the top of the UK's breakbeat scene.
``I started DJ-ing on pirate radio station when I was about 15 years old and I moved into production from there a few years later to take my career a bit further,'' Hill said.
Originally setting his sights on drum'n'bass, Hill moved onto producing breakbeat after attending the FRICTION club run by ADAM FREELAND and RENNIE PILGREM. ``After I went to Friction, I was hooked. I love breaks, there's something about it and I don't know what it is, but I'm just hooked.'' Hill said his drum'n'bass roots had seen him adopt a deeper and darker approach to breakbeat.
``I slowly made the transition from drum'n'bass to breakbeat and my sound is very unlike the Australian sound so it will be a whole new experience for people coming to Nutshell.
``Hopefully they'll be into it because I plan to play it really bold with a nice deep, dark edge to it.'' Hill has established two labels 2S2 and CONEHEAD RECORDS and produced tracks for labels such as DISTINCTIVE, BOTCHIT & SCARPER and TCR. He said his stint is Australia will allow him to work alongside Australian artists like KID KENOBI and PHIL SMART as well as play shows including a support slot with UNKLE. Hill will be joined by Q45, AUXILARY, KATO and FALLON at Nutshell Breaks at KING STREET HOTEL on Saturday from 10pm.
Pre-sale tickets are $15 from PDMS, THREESIXTYSOUNDS, RAMJET, ABICUS SELECTIONS and King Street Hotel or $20 on the door.
