US singer-songwriter JOHN MAYER will embark on a six-date national tour in April and perform at NEWCASTLE ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE on April 16.
Mayer whose hits include Your Body is a Wonderland and Bigger Than My Body has sold more than 3 thmillion records since he burst on to the scene with No Such Thing in 2001.
Blessed with a beautifully smoky vocal style and renowned for his relentless tour schedule, Mayer's upcoming trip will be his third tour of Australia in less than two years.
The tour represents a step up for the 27-year-old who will graduate from playing the intimate theatre- style venues on his last tour to playing larger-scale venues across the country.
Mayer said his hectic tour schedule had not only allowed him to prove himself as an artist but also allowed him to refine his talent as a live musician.
``I'm focused on proving that my success wasn't an accident,'' Mayer said.
``And when I play on stage I want to get twice as good as I am now.'' Mayer released his sophomore major label album Room For Squares in 2001, but it took more than a year for it to gain widespread recognition.
The album slowly worked its way up the US BILLBOARD charts and his clever pop hooks earned him a Grammy award for Best Pop Vocal in 2002.
Mayer enjoyed his follow-up album Heavier Things entering the US charts at the top position upon its release in 2003.
The first single taken from the album, Bigger Than My Body , was the most played song on Australian radio for four consecutive weeks.
Tickets for John Mayer went on sale on February 9 from TICKETEK on 4921 2121.
