UK breakbeat boys STANTON WARRIORS obviously enjoyed themselves last time they toured Australia.
Just six months after their last trip down under , the pair return this week for another run of dates.
Beginning in Cairns tomorrow night, the 10-date tour will bring Stanton Warriors to Newcastle for the first time to headline NUTSHELL BREAKS at KING STREET HOTEL on Wednesday, August 25.
As one the most successful acts to come out of the UK's breakbeat scene, Stanton Warriors have produced some of the biggest club tracks in recent years such as Da Virus and Da Antidote. One half of the group, DOMINIC B, said he had been surprised by their success as the tracks were picked up by everyone from high-profile breaks DJs to progressive house star SASHA.
``It kind of cut across many different divides and showed that records could be played by everyone and not only within the one genre,'' Dominic B said.
''I guess those songs, along with our remix and mix tape and stuff, kicked us into the limelight and put us where we are today.'' Dominic B and MARK YARDLEY have certainly come a long was from their early days as young men possessed by a passion for big beats and breaks.
As well as successful official releases, Stanton Warriors have become just as renowned for the bootlegs released on their own PUNKS record label.
Two of the biggest dancefloor hist of 2003, She's Not In and Break Me With You, were released through the label.
``Ironically enough, the people who we actually bootleg often quite like the tracks and most of the time encourage us to put them out, rather than trying to take us to court,'' Dominic said.``Punks has become a vehicle for people to check out our edits and bootlegs. We are quite amazed by how well they sell, actually.'' Dominic B said fans could look out for the arrival of new material soon.
Stanton Warriors will play Nutshell Breaks on Wednesday, August 25 alongside KATO, AUXILARY and more from 9pm.
