ALEX PATERSON , one half of pioneering UK dance outfit THE ORB , will play a set at KING STREET HOTEL tomorrow night on his first solo tour of Australia.
The Orb is synonymous with ambient beats and chilled soundscapes.
It has been seen as creating the blueprint for the electronic chillout genre following the release of debut album Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld. In 1991, The Orb's collaboration with PRIMAL SCREAM on the track Higher Than the Sun was seen as a highlight of the latter's classic Screamadelica album.
Paterson is touring to support the release of The Orb's latest album Bicycles and Tricycles which was released on March 22.
Paterson's two-hour set promises to go right across the board, mixing a variety of dance style and featuring unreleased tracks and mixes from The Orb, as well as work he has done for other artists.
Joining the tour will be Melbourne electronic act, PSYBURBIA, whose new CD Interstellar Mushroom is out now, and Newcastle's DJ KATO. Tickets are $13 from THE ROCK SHOP, BEAUMONT ST BEAT, SOUND WORLD, THREESIXTYSOUNDS, and King Street Hotel.
