Rock Royalty Powers Ahead

Where: Newcastle Entertainment Centre
When: Wednesday December 10, 2003

ONE of Newcastle's most highly anticipated rock events, POWDERFINGER in concert, on Wednesday December 10 at NEWCASTLE ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE, has sold more than half of the venue capacity in the first day of ticket sales.

The LIVE ON VULTURE STREET TOUR will take in 12 dates across Australia and sees Powderfinger in Newcastle again after two years.

After returning triumphant from their first live appearance in almost a year at this year's SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS event, the band is taking its new album Vulture Street around the country.

The tour kicks off in Perth and ends in Tasmania just before Christmas.

These will be Powderfinger's only live shows between now and mid next year.

and there no summer festival appearances are scheduled.

Joining them for most shows on this rock n' roll adventure will be special guests JOHN BUTLER TRIO along with up and coming quartet THE TREMORS.

Powderfinger is one of Australia's most successful rock bands, having sold almost 1.

5 thmillion records in Australia.

Their last two albums debuted at No.

1 on the ARIA charts with Odyssey Number Five enjoying platinum sales.

They've toured the US, UK and Europe.

After the phenomenal success of their career so far, Powderfinger have undergone a reinvention of sorts.

They have relaxed into their status as Australia's rock royalty and turned their musical direction toward their roots: the straight- edged, power rock stylings.

With their new and f th album, Vulture Street , the band has stepped up to the challenge of taking its music to the next level.

Working again with NICK DIDIA ( RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, NEIL YOUNG ) as well as BRENDAN O'BRIEN ( BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, PEARL JAM ) they have created a hard-hitting album that moves away from the more thematic ballads of their previous albums.

Vulture Street brilliantly combines back-to-basics - a raw rock 'n' roll sound charged with driving guitar r fs, huge beats and BERNARD FANNING'S commanding vocals and common man touch.

The album debuted at No.

1 on the ARIA charts and is still going strong.

The LIVE ON VULTURE Street tour will unleash the tight, dynamic rock show for which Powderfinger are renowned.
