FOLLOWING two appearances from SOUL OF MAN in 2003, NUTSHELL BREAKS is set to bring another one of the UK's dynamic duos to the decks when PHANTOM BEATS headline this weekend.
Like Soul of Man, Phantom Beats combines the talent of two DJs MATT PHANTOM and NEIL PHANTOM who run their own record label and specialise in breakbeats.
Phantom Beats will make their Australian debut this weekend during a four-date tour.
The basis of Phantom Beats was founded in 1993 when Neil and Matt discovered a shared love of music.
Originally playing separately, the pair eventually united as a two-piece under the moniker Phantom Beats.
Neil said the pair have no plans for Nutshell but to ``promise to make the crowd dance''.
"It became clear that we were on the same musical wavelength,'' Neil Phantom said.
It was after a chance gig at the legendary HEAVENLY JUKEBOX , which launched the likes of THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS and FATBOY SLIM , that Phantom Beats found its fanbase.
``It was really weird because we went from playing to 20 people in our local bar to being headliners at this crazy club which has thousands of people.
``We literally rang the club and said ``We're really ace, you need to book us,'' and I think they must have had a quiet week or something because they said, ``Okay, come on up.
'' The pair played an early set and were asked to keep playing after the headliner act pulled out.
``Before we know it, its peak time and the place was going crazy.
'' Phantom Beats scored a residency at the club which went on to pave the way for success throughout Europe, America and Spain.
Neil said the pair have no plans for Nutshell but to ``promise to make the crowd dance''.
``We will provide you with a lot of bass and it will be funky - we'll probably be making more noise than the crowd because we're all about having a good time.
'' Nutshell Breaks will return to King Street Hotel on Saturday from 10pm and feature DEFCON1, AUXILARY, KATO, J*JAY, SKOOB, BOOGIE and DEEKAY .
Tickets are $15 pre-sale from 360 SOUNDS, RAMJET, ABICUS and the KING STREET HOTEL or $20 on the door.
